Google Voice Does Not Work For Card Activation

If you have set your phone set to automatically use Google Voice for calls you may run into the problem that when you are calling to get your credit card activated, for some reason, the system cannot recognize the number you are submitting, like “123456789#” although the financial institutions has your Google Voice number.

I ran into this problem recently and after checking at a branch with my financial institution, confirming that I should be able to activate the card and I didn’t miss any other steps prior to the activation and also confirming my submitted phone number, I went into my settings and changed Google Voice to ask me every time I make a call. And voilà the card activation with my regular phone number worked.

Admittedly, I could have just talked to a service representative on the phone in order to get my card activated but this would not have been satisfying for me because I wanted to find the answer to my question why the activation over the automated system would not work. :-)
